Frequently because it invented/perfected many techniques used in modern filmmaking.
Personally I reckon Pulp Fiction is the best movie of all time.

It invented so many things we take for contracted in movies today, like flashbacks and makeup on characters. Then the lighting and picture making were groundbreaking for the time.
